Relocating to Rugby, North Dakota
Some families are moving because of wildfires, hurricanes, flooding, water shortages, or home insurance they can no longer get. This page covers what Rugby offers and how to buy a lot here.
If your home insurance was canceled or not renewed
Many homeowners in wildfire, hurricane, and coastal areas are losing coverage or seeing large premium increases. Rugby is inland and away from coastlines and large forests. We have never had fires, floods, or hurricanes. We do get blizzards and a random tornado. Ask your insurance agent for a quote on a Rugby address before you buy, so you know the real cost.
If your area is short on water
Rugby homes are on city water and sewer. Our area is aquifer fed and at no risk of losing sustainable water. Ask us for utility details on any lot.
If you lost a home to a fire, flood, or storm
You can buy a lot and build a one-story home with your own contractor, or build with us so one company handles the lot and the house. Call and we will walk through timing and cost.
If you want a smaller, quieter town
Rugby has about 2,500 residents, a public K-12 school, a hospital, grocery stores, and a walking path near and numerous parks. Our crime rate is low, with no violent crime to speak of at all. Minot is about an hour west on Highway 2 for those who plan to commute.
What to know about the weather
North Dakota winters are cold and long, with snow from about November to March. Summers are warm and humid. Plan for a well-insulated home and an attached garage. Auto-start on your car is a must. But we also enjoy winter, with plenty of outdoor activities like ice fishing, snow parks, sledding, skating, hockey, and skiing.
